Regarding our Complete Restoration

Here is an update and more information about Classic Car Radio Service’s extended restoration of your classic automobile radio. The restoration cost for a radio in average condition is between $295.00 and $1000.00 depending on the complexity of the radio, i.e. if it is am / fm, has tape, or is a Town & Country, Wonder Bar or signal seeking type. These prices are subject to change. Chrome work, knob replacement, silk screen dial restoration and speaker rebuilding, when necessary, is extra. Our restoration job consists of replacing all capacitors, and resistors, installing a new solid state vibrator, when applicable, and replacing any other components that are out of tolerance or defective, i.e., tubes, solid state devices, coils, frayed wiring etc. and all rubber components, such as grommets, shock mounts, clutches, tuning "slug" registers and any dial cords. We unsolder and remove the old parts, instead of clipping them, when we install the new ones. We use Teflon® sleeving for reliability and neatness. All replacement components used are of the highest mil-spec. quality. We also completely remove, break down and ultrasonically clean, in a three step operation, the dial and tuning mechanism including the drive regulator, drive motor, mechanical and electric clutches, relays and switches. All drive motors are dismantled and the "armatures" are "dressed" on a jeweler's lathe. We then relubricate with modern lithium and silicone lubricants for smooth long lasting performance. We also strip, buff and re paint fill the dial lens and repaint the dial pointer (to original factory specs). Also, repaint fill and buff out the bezel and push switches or knobs, bead blast the case plates (non painted radios) and replate chassis parts that have rust due to worn through plating. Finally, we fully align the i.f. system using the sweep-oscilloscope method, align the r.f. system using a crystal calibrated generator and the "peak" method and calibrate dial markings. On stereo radios we also align and calibrate the "multiplex" decoder assuring maximum stereo separation and minimum distortion. The completed radio is environmentally tested for 48 hours alternating temperature between 140° F. and 36° F. on a shake table. We carefully restore your radio to original specifications and guaranty it will perform factory new.

Since 1955, our family owned business has been the leader in the restoration of classic car radios. With the latest and highest quality test equipment, no one else offers this extent of thoroughness and quality craftsmanship, along with customer satisfaction.

The most valuable thing you can do is restore your radio as it is. "Reproduction", "conversion" or so called "up grade" methods are not what they claim to be and further, it ruins the value of your radio and ultimately your automobile. Your radio, when properly restored, will out perform any alternative and last longer.

Radio restoration is like all other facets of automobile restoration. Quality ranges from shoddy and inadequate craftsmanship to expert professionalism with understanding and knowledge. We specialize in real, authentic restoration, not just "gloss-over" , which we feel serves our customers and maintains the value and quality of your classic automobile. No one in the business does more thorough, higher quality and more knowledgeable work.

Guaranty and Documentation Policy

Guaranty

It is the policy of Classic Car Radio Service® to provide a written "five year, parts and labor" guaranty. Because we keep records of the model and serial number of all restored radios we provide any warranty service based on this information. This means that even if you sell your automobile the guaranty remains in effect. This is a full, comprehensive guaranty not just "smoke and mirrors". It is designed to honestly provide our customers the full support of our company. We have found that the key to providing this five year guaranty is thorough, high quality work in every stage of restoration. The truth is: If the restoration work is done properly your radio will play perfectly, far longer than five years!

Documentation

It is our further policy to provide complete and concise documentation carefully describing all parts and procedures involved in the restoration process. We also return all old parts. Furthermore, we provide a sheet covering the performance parameters as well as step-by-step reinstallation instructions.

We urge you to compare our quality service with others, and when they claim to do the same work as us, ask them if they will put it in writing!

YOU WILL HEAR AND SEE THE DIFFERENCE!

When you send your radio for restoration, please pack it with care and ship it UPS. You may want to insure it for at least $1000.00, (just $3.50 extra and worth it). To lessen the risk of shipping damage, pack your radio with at least 3 inches of packing material between any surface of the radio and the edge of the shipping container, especially near the knob shafts. In this case more is better. Be sure to include any peripherals such as SPEAKER or POWER SUPPLY and any connecting cables for these units.
